Nutmeg essential oil is a warming spicy oil that is extracted from fruits and seeds by steam distillation. The main components of the oil:
alpha- and beta-pinene, camphene, sabinene, myrcene, cymene, terpinene, terpinolene, terpinen-4-ol, alpha-terpineol, alpha- and beta-phellandrene, 1,8-cineol, limonene, linalool, geraniol, safrole, eugenol, isoeugenol, methyleugenol, myristicin, elemicin. The oil contains about 80% monoterpene hydrocarbons, 10% terpene alcohols and their acetates, and about 10% phenylallyl derivatives (eugenol, methyleugenol, safrole, myristicin, elemicin, isoelemicin), which affect not only the smell, but also the medical and biological properties oils.

Obtained by steam distillation from the fruits and pericarp of nutmeg (nutmeg) – Myristica fragrans Houtt. (muskatnikovye family – Myristicaceae).
