Production method: absolute, extraction with a carbohydrate solvent from the petals. The flowers must be picked at night when the scent is strongest.

It takes about 1,000 pounds or 3,600,000 jasmine flowers to make 1 pound (454 g) of Jasmine absolute. The flowers must be picked before sunrise, otherwise much of the fragrance will evaporate. To get a quality absolute, it is important that the flowers are not broken and dented.

One pound of pure Jasmine oil can cost anywhere from $1200 to $4500.
Jasmine absolute is often faked. Synthetic Jasmine oil costs $3.5 a pound.
